Djarragun Mountain, also known as Walsh’s Pyramid in Gordonvale, located south of Cairns, gets its traditional name from the nest of the scrub hen. The artwork depicts a nighttime thunderstorm over the mountain. This mountain is especially important to the Gunggandji and Yidinji tribes, as they used it for navigation and ceremonies. It also features in traditional stories, like that of Djarruga and her husband, who are believed to have created the mountain after Djarruga and her sister Bindah finished a long journey while she was pregnant. All these stories inspired me to create these artworks and put together a small collection of my thoughts.
