This hand‑woven raffia dillybag carries the colours of my rainforest Malanbarra Yidinji Country — the bright greens, deep water blues, flower reds, and rich earth tones that hold my identity and my ancestors’ footsteps.
As I travelled across Cape York, I gathered new colours from each community and each Country: ochres of inland tracks, coastal blues, sunset oranges, and the soft tones of places that welcomed me to sit, listen, and learn.
Every row woven into this bag holds cultural memory — the stories gifted to me, the teachings I carry with responsibility, and the connections that strengthen my pathway. Woven together, these strands form a vessel of Country, journey, and kinship.
A reminder that I walk with my own Country behind me, and many other Communities woven into me.
