Hunting Goanna, 2024
Acrylic on canvas
49 x 59 x 3.5cm
When we go out on Country to the Blue lagoon my family and I hunt goanna.
Blue lagoon is my grandmother’s country. Goanna are part of our traditional food and we eat it with johnny cake (a small damper).
My grandfather who was from Mornington Island can’t eat goanna because that animal is his dreaming and if he did eat it, it is believed by our families that he would get sick.
