Lila Creek (Balji, DillyBag)
- Acrylic on Canvas
- 76.5 x 70 x 2cm
This Balji (dillybag) work illustrates how we used them to hunt and gather fish, crabs, and turtles with tools like the Kulka (spear), woomera and boomerangs. I remember my dad using a spear to catch Ngawiya (fish) and crabs while my mum carried the balji to collect them. We would then take our catch home for mayi (meal).
I love to paint every day and express my stories through my artwork. Sharing my creations is special because my father taught me this skill, and I want to continue what he passed down. My children and grandchildren also enjoy my paintings and have incorporated their stories into their artwork. I see myself as a role model, continuing the legacy of my father's teachings.
