Taheega Savage, Big Ama, 2021

35cm x 50cm
I chose this title for two reasons. The first is as a tribute to my Grandmother – Big Ama. She was an amazing woman who was well-respected, loved and known by many as Big Ama or Big Mother on Erub (Darnley Island) and Cairns. The second is because the barramundi changes into a female once it reaches about 80cm. Therefore any big barramundi is a ‘Big Ama’ or Big Mother.
