Acrylic on Canvas

In this painting,
I honour my great-grandmother Maude (Naraggie) from father’s side.
She was born at Delta Station near Normanton around 1872.
Naraggie is her tribal name and brolgas were her totem, which is why I feel so inspired to represent them in my art.
She had three sons, and my Grandfather was her youngest.
I felt proud and happy to create this artwork to share what I know about her.
For me, preserving family information, stories, and memories in my artwork is very important.
Even though I never met my great-grandmother, as she passed away in 1952, my mother told me that she was laid to rest in the Cloncurry cemetery
and my aunt shared that her totem was the brolga.
Her husband, my Great-grandfather is also buried in the Cloncurry cemetery.
She was living with my Grandfather, Grandmother (my mother’s family) in Cloncurry at the end of her life.
The circles at the bottom represent my Great-grandmother,
my Grandfather, my Mother and me.
Both my Great-grandmother and Grandfather were born in Normanton
and my Mother and I were born in Cloncurry.

Exhibited in 'You & Me' exhibition @ UMI Arts Gallery, March 2025 - April 2025.
