Yumala Jewellery is a unique collection created by Shirley Collins, a proud member of the Pitta Pitta and Kalkadoon peoples from Boulia, Western Queensland. Born in the 1950s in Mt Isa, Queensland, Shirley draws inspiration from her rich cultural heritage to craft stunning pieces of jewellery.
Each piece in the Yumala Jewellery collection is meticulously designed by Shirley using air-dried clay and hand-painted with acrylics. Her contemporary Aboriginal art style shines through in every cut-out and detail, creating truly one-of-a-kind pieces.
Shirley's designs are a blend of rustic charm and symbolic artistry, reflecting her 28+ years of experience in Aboriginal art. Through her creations, she aims to promote a deeper understanding of Aboriginal culture and heritage, inviting people from all walks of life to appreciate and enjoy the beauty of her work.
Yumala Jewellery is not just a collection of accessories, but a celebration of Australia's diverse communities and Aboriginal art.
Exhibited in 'The Summer Show' exhibition @ UMI Arts Gallery, November 2024 - February 2025.
