At the end of the dry season in Kowanyama, around October or November, it's the mating season for the mim-barcherr. Males and females keep separate usually, but during this time you might see them together. After mating, the female will build a big mound on the bank of the river, with leaves and dirt and grass, a big beautiful nest to place her eggs and keep them safe. Then for a long time, months, she has to look after the eggs. All this time she is nesting. She keeps the eggs warm and dry and safe from other animals until they hatch and then she carries them down to the water to safety
