Kel Williams was born in Cairns, Far North Queensland, Australia. He commenced learning the art of carving at the age of 10 from his paternal grandfather from Thursday Island who wood carved. His grandfather specialised in carving fish but he showed a preference to carving Aboriginal figures and Australian native animals. He also creates other works such as this pendant.
