The importance of 'Sai' lies in its role as a vital food source for our community and in the traditional method of catching sardines with a weir. I recall my niece jagging sardines with a single hook, using them as bait to catch larger fish. I also remember seeing schools of sardines and walking on the 'Sai' reef during low tide, excited about what we might catch. Living far from Erub now, painting about it helps me stay connected to the place and my family. I continue to learn about language, culture, and family, and these insights empower me. Through my art, I express my creativity and take pride in being a descendant of Erub.
