I was never given a totem due to the loss of language, culture, and traditions from my grandmother’s parents, my great-grandparents being part of the Stolen Generation. My grandfather’s mother, Maude (my great-grandmother), was lucky to have the Korrakorr as her totem. Hearing this information long after her passing in 1952, my grandfather’s passing in 1985, and even my mother’s passing in 2021, makes me feel a strong connection to them through the Korrakorr in the monoprint “Glorious Dancing Korrakorr.” This bond keeps us together and connected. I represent my connection to my country, my family, and my people through the Korrakorr, and I look forward to my next sighting and experience of the Korrakorr’s walks, dancing, foraging, or flying.
