Flying foxes leave the trees at sunset and enter the Colman River, which is located on the north arm of the Shelfo River (also known as the Mitchell River). Above the river is believed to be the Serpent's open mouth (represented by a rainbow). They remain in the Serpent's mouth overnight and return to the Shelfo River early in the morning.
My people hunt flying foxes because we believe that their meat promotes good health. They primarily feed on nectar, fruits, and flowers. We make minced meat, which allows us to extract the healthiest parts. We also cook them in a bush oven using tea tree leaves and other foliage to enhance their flavour.
