Magarr is the Guugu Yimithirr word for Fish Trap. Fish traps are made of small trees and tied with vines which is cut with their stone axe and the edge was sharpened with shells and sharp stones. I remember as a child listening to the stories how my family would make fish traps to catch fish and they would share their catch with other members of family. I really enjoy painting them because it brings back fond memories from childhood.
